From Smuksjøseter to Rodvassbu

I drove through Hamar on July 2 and up to Høvringen and Smuksjøseter. There was complete chaos at Hamar with heavy traffic, queues and lots of roundabouts.

Was up at Smukksjøseter at 18.50. I just managed to get dinner. I parked the car here until I return on July 4th.

On Tuesday, July 2, I started walking at 9.50am. It was cloudy weather with a very strong and cold wind that I got in the back and partly from the side. It was about 4 degrees hot.
Walked towards the Peer Gynt hut in slightly rocky terrain.
Was there at 11am and sat behind the cabin for a drink.

Here I also met two with whom I had breakfast. They had taken another path. Over a mountain.

As I sat there I saw a bird feeding its kids inside a stone wall. I thought about how it would go with those kids when it was snowing and cold.

Now it rises 240m up to the stone arch Ljosåbue. Here I sat in the shelter for the cold wind and ate. Some nice stone chairs were made behind the cabin.

The time now was 12:15. Here came 4 young girls with a dog from Rondvassbu. They sat down in the bow to eat.

Now it is quite flat to Rondvassbu. A little up and down.
Had to cross the Krokåttbekken, but did not need to wade.
Skipped on the rocks.

One does not see Rondvassbu until one is quite close because it lies down in a sack.
Looked down at the cabin at 14.19, and was advancing at 14.40.
Had used approx. 5 hours and was happy with it. Was not particularly tired.

There weren't as many people here as there used to be. Maybe because it was so cold and the long-term forecast was bad.

I was accommodated in a 4 man room. It didn't come anymore so I had the room to myself. It was now delicious with a waffle with sour cream and jam + milk and coffee.
It was noon at 7pm and they had delicious fried trout.
Talk to some nice people during dinner.

Had bought with full silk bedding and it was very comfortable instead of sleeping bag. It weighed approx. 320g. Had bought it at the DNT store. It cost approx. kr.1000.

I had left the tent, sleeping bag and sleeping mat on this trip.

From Rondvassbu to Dørålseter.

Had breakfast at 8am and started walking at 8.50am.

I should go over the rock Rondhalsen. It is 477 meters quite steep uphill. I knew right away that the form of the day was not good. It went up slowly.

Was on top at 11am and had spent 2 hours and 10 minutes. Was pretty tired.
I had been afraid of snow falling from the top, but it was OK to go down.
But it was very steep but not airy anywhere.

Hit two guys on the way up with big backpacks. They asked when the boat was going. I didn't show that.

Was down at 11.50am and my legs were shaking. So now I went into move legs mode.
Did not have powers, just moved one and one leg at a time.

I sat down and ate and drank at noon, but it didn't help much.

Walked up the path from Langglupdalen and continued towards Dørålseter.
Was at trail parts at 13.10.

Hit 2 girls who would take the boat. They had a very good time.
It was very rocky down towards Dørålseter.

Walked down Bergedalsbekken.
Almost just downhill.

Was very tired and decided to sit down to rest and drink and eat some. It helped and was in better shape after that.

Hit 4 ladies who would reach the boat on Rondvatnet. I had heard that the boat left at 3.30 pm but the ladies meant 16.15. If it went at 3.30 pm I don't think they managed it and then they had to cross the Rondhalsen. It had been tough.

It started snowing as I went down. But it did not lie on the ground.
The temperature was approx.
4 degrees, but I'm not frozen. Did not have sweater on me, only wool sweater under the shirt.
Was there at Dørålseter at 16.00.

Had use approx.
7 hours and 10 minutes. Seems it was OK with my day form. My legs had gotten much better after sitting down and eating.

I got a nice room here and there was waffle with coffee here too. They had a fire in the fireplace room when it was quite cold outside. There were cakes and meat pies for dinner.

Many nice people here. I paid and made up for myself in the evening.
Tomorrow I will walk 26km and start walking at 5am.

so I hope for OK weather.

They showed me the weather reports from YR that said it was going to be sunny from tomorrow.
Was not sure about it when the wife said it was going to be cold and bad weather.

From Dørålseter to Smukksjøseter.

I ate and drank a little before I started at 4:30 in the morning.
Had only walked 50m before it started to snow very much and got the wind right in the face.

The first hour the trail was mostly in birch forest so I didn't notice much of it. The trail went very close to the river here.

Went in through squat and got wet. But I folded my pants all the way down to the boots to use them as a gamer. And it worked very well The boots were dry.

After approx. For an hour I had to stop and put on my sweater. After that I didn't freeze on the whole trip
The snow had begun to settle on the ground and it became worse to see the red marking.

Ascended towards Ragnhildstad at 07.30. Arrived at Dørålvannet at 08:00 and went to the right of it. Come to the stone house that was here.

Here I sat down and ate.
In fact, think it was people there.
There were footprints around the cabin in the fresh snow and it smelled burnt from the stove, but no one came out. It was 8:30 so it was a little early.

I knew a little about yesterday's walk in my legs when I started to walk, but forced myself to walk at a fairly leisurely pace. I got that again later when the shape just got better and better.

At 09.40 after I left the stone hut, it snowed and blew very much. Had great trouble seeing the red marking. In fact I think it hail too. I swirled a little back and forth before I found it.

Should now descend towards Djupdalsbekken and remembered from 2 years back when I went the other way. I did not see the red marking because of snowflakes.
This time I went the other way and fortunately the marking was good this way.

Clear red marking right up to the pelvis.
Get down in the creek at 11.10am.

And now I made my big mistake. Down the creek there was a red mark and a path that I followed up to the right for a while. There was a path that went deep into the ground there.

Had taken off my glasses when they were full of snowflakes. I was having trouble seeing the GPS and camera display. Both displays were greyish-black. I didn't get snow-blind, did I? It wasn't sun, so I don't think so. but it was a very strange light out there.

I remembered walking down a steep path to the right 2 years ago the other way, so when I saw a path going up to the right I followed it. It went steeply to the right. Followed this trail up at 11.22.
When I got up from the trail it was very steep further and very smooth in the snow.

After coming up I found no path or red marking. I could see down into the creek that went down the ravine, so I showed where I was, but I didn't get down there. It was steep and very smooth.
Swirled around up here in the steep for 2 hours and 10 minutes.
Suddenly I heard that I had cell phone coverage to call my wife.

She hadn't looked at the tracing that I couldn't find, and I said I'd go back and try to find where I was going. Suddenly I saw a small plateau down towards the creek and went down yours.
Now I was relieved.
There was a gravel back down to the creek and right on a red mark. Followed the trail down at 13.40, and it was going full speed towards Kvannslådalsbue where I would take the path to the left down towards Smukksjøseter. Was aboard at 15.22.

It went down to Smuksjøseter at full speed.
Arrived at Smukksjøseter at 17.15.
Had spent 3.5 hours from the canyon. I did not take any pictures when I did not see the display on the camera.

I forgot and turned off the Satellite transmitter so the measurement was a bit wrong. Had spent 13 hours and 45 minutes on the trip. It was a long time but if we subtract 2 hours and 10 minutes the time becomes only 11 hours and 30 minutes. It wouldn't have been bad.

I was not so tired after going for over 13 hours. Towards Smukksjøseter I walked 4 and 5 km / h. And it wasn't just down.

I think in some situations I act before I think properly. If I had stopped to look at the map, I would have seen the trail continue down the creek before going up.

I drove down to Kvam to stay at a motel there. The next day I drove up to Otta and looked over the Valdres fleet. Stopped on the Hulderstigen and at Besseggen and took many pictures of mountain flowers.

This had been a little special trip.

The trip to Rondvassbu was OK. I was not tired and it was usable weather. A little cold wind that came from behind. This is a stretch of OK trails and suitable climbs.

The trip to Dørålseter was difficult. Especially over the Rondhalsen where I was quite tired. I noticed right away that the shape was not good. I went over there in 2008 and then I spent 1.5 hours to the top. Now I spent 40 minutes more. I actually got more tired down an uphill. The break I took down in Bergedalen did the trick. I felt much better after resting and after eating.

From Dørålseter to Smukksjøseter it was a little bad weather. I walked slowly the first part even though I felt I could go faster. Seemed to be in better shape eventually. The tab I did at the Vasskjelet was a bit silly. I was going to wait 1-2 hundred meters before going up to the right. Once I got up into the mountain, I had a hard time finding my way down to the creek again. It was very smooth down towards the valley. Although I walked for over 13 hours I was not very tired.

This was a special tour with new experiences. A teacher as long as one lives.
