Trip to Haukeliseter in 2019

Back

Here's a Nupsegga. There is a very wild terrain in here. Has just been at the top of Vesle Nup which is 1510m high.

The weather was pretty good for 2 days. Sunday was supposed to be nice in the afternoon and Monday was forecast good weather all day.

I left Nesodden on Sunday 1st September approx. at 08:00 and arrived at Haukeliseter at 13.00.

Day 1

The first day I had planned to go from Ulevå to the Nupselva river and up towards the Nupsdalen valley. Then I would go below the Store Nup and back to the Trollnup. There was a lot of water in the river so I didn't walk towards Nupsdalen. Was afraid I didn't get over the river to the right side. It was wise because it was not possible to get over.

It was a bit silly when I got about the same route as in 2017.

It started to rain as soon as I started walking.

It wasn't that nice color yet. It was a little early.

It was forecast 2 degrees the other day so it could snow. Went for approx. 3 hours and 20 minutes and walked about 7 - 8 km on the first day.

Dag 2

The second day was good weather and about 7-8 degrees hot.

I started at 08.45 to go to Vesle Nup. Had passed there before, but never been at the top.

It was a bit soft to walk up the first steep climb, but OK. Arrived at the path separating to Ulevå after 1 hour. It was the same as in 2011 when I went to Hellevassbu. I had a little heavier bag at that time.

It was a nice trail to walk but a bit up and down as the heights are slightly across the trail. There was a younger couple coming after me, but they didn't reach me again.

I walked up a hill next to the trail. It was 1393m high. I took some pictures there and went down the back and continued up towards Vesle Nup. It was a very easy path up there.

Was arriving at the guard after approx. 3 hours. I think I have walked approx. 7.5 km. when I went over the small hill. Vesle Nut is at 1510m above sea level.

There was a fairly large plateau at the top and a cliff that had shelter from the wind.

I saw Holmasjøen from the top and managed to go there. It was above Mannevaten. But I saw some threatening clouds down towards Ståvatn so I decided not to go there.

I started going down approx. at 12.20. I decided to go down to Mannevaten and turn left and on the left side of Mannvasstjønn. That path goes down to Ulvå setra.

I walked past Trollnup approx. at 2pm and there were actually some light snow showers. Had now gone for 5 hours but I was not tired.

I decided to go from Ulevå and up the path between Haukeliseter and Hellevassbu.

Here I made a mistake when there were 2 trails here. One for those going to Haukeliseter and one for those going to Hellevassbu. I walked the one that went towards Hellevassbu and ended up almost all the way up the path where I took off from the path towards Vesle Nup.

I probably walked a few miles longer than I should, but it was OK.

Was down at Haukeliseter at 5pm.
Had used approx. 8 hours and walked 20.7 km.

I used the smartphone and Norgesmap. Loaded the maps at Haukeliseter and started tracking when I started. It worked very well.

Here I got exactly the distance I had walked.

The next day I had breakfast and then drove home across Rjukan.
