Mountain tour from Odda to Bjørkflåta Uvdal in Numedal 2006
Day 1
Took the night bus from Oslo on Wednesday at 22.30.
I started alone from Odda 6/7 2006. The clock 05.30.
Beautiful weather.
Had with tents, sleeping bags and lie base + stove and food. Ca.17 kg.
I went on the road to Tyssedal, ca.5 km.
There was not much fun to go through tunnels, but it went OK.
The road up to Skjeggedal was good to go. about 6 km.
It was nice view from the road.
On the way up I came to talk with two from the power company.
So when I got up to Skjeggedal, I received offers from them to run with Mågelibanen up in the mountains.
960 m long and ca.400 m up.
It was an experience for a fright of height.
The trip on to Tyssevassbu was tiresome.
From Top to Trombeskard it was a good rise.
The distance from Skjeggedal to Tyssevassbu is on ca.18,8km.
After I wade across the river from Vatagjelet and came over to Steine I got a terrible weather.
Thunderstorms and hail showers.
Did not recognize the red label. I wondered if I was in the right place.
It turned out that since I was close to the cabin.
I should have gone over 2 bridges to get there.
I turned and went 5-6 km back to beat up the tent at 21.00 at night, at approximately Ullensvang /Odda border.
Day 2
Next morning I went down to Holmevaten to come to power line that went to Tyssevassbu.
I could not get over the river, and had to go all the way down to the dam in the river, where there was no water.
Down to Tyssehølen
The trail along the lines were awful heavy to move. Up and down all the way.
I had started at 09.00 in the morning, and was promoting at 17.30 on Tyssevassbu.
I felt that I had wasted one day and gone ca.15 km longer than I had needed.
But it was also an experience and a challenge to go in the rocky terrain along the power line.
It rained pretty closely the last 3-4 hours I went, so it was good to arrive at the cabin.
I think Tyssevassbu was a very nice cabin.
It had power, and radio in the cabin was OK when one was alone.
Had not seen a human being after I came up in the mountains these 2 first days.
Day 3
It started with a little dusk rain, but it was eventually stay.
I started at 05.30 in the morning to go to Litlos. The trip is about. 18.5 km.
The path to Litlos was OK to go, but there were a lot of snow.
The snow was really OK to go in.
It was part wild terrain along the path, so by bad weather and fog should a fit them.
Vadet over the river by Onskardvatnet. It was all right.
Hit the 3 boys on the trip, pin people. They greeted not return.
Ate once on the trip, and was rang home by mobile phone.
It was the first coverage I had. My wife was a little scared when she had not heard from me.
I was promoting on Litlos at 12.15, and felt in great shape, so I decided to move to Besso.
The trip there is around. 20 km.
The weather was now fine, but I was a little tired at the end.
Met a couple with a girl of about. 6 years. They had approx. 1.5 hours to go to Litlos.
Great that they get young kids in the mountains.
It was nice to see Besso lie down by the water.
It was a little too long stretch to go on one day.
Was promoting at 20.30. It had been a good day.
I missed to get me dinner, but they heated a meal to me.
Met some nice people.
Talked to 24.00 a clock
Day 4
Ate breakfast and made food package. They had a wonderful good bread and beef sausage.
Started at 09.00 in the morning to go to Lågaros.
The trip is about. 27 km.
It was dusk rain when I started.
Went first to Sandhaug. It was a trip of about. 1.5 hours over the marsh area, but it was posted barge to go on.
This day would be completely terrible.
After passing Sandhaug it began to blow and rain terrible.
I had on me rainwear, poncho, but it did not help much.
Soon I was soft right through.
Froze terrible on the fingers even if I had my gloves.
It was very smooth to go.
So just after separate path to Mogen, I slipped on a rock and fell into a brook.
Boots that were the only thing I had on me which was more or less dry, was now full of water
There were fortunately only a little over 1 hour to go up again Lågaros.
This was strange as it stood on the map that the trip would take 2 hours from the trail distinction.
As a rule I had to add 1 or 2 hours on 6/7 hour trip on what was on the map.
When I came to the hut, I froze on my fingers, so I almost could not untie my shoelace
Fortunately, there were people in the cabin and the oven was on full heat when there were others who also were wet through.
Great cabin and pleasant people who were there.
Set at. 24.00 at night and "grilled" insoles of boots to get them dry.
Day 5
Went against Mårbu at 09.00 in the morning.
A little rain dusk when I started, but soon the sun came up.
It seemed to be the finest day.
The trail was pretty good and well marked.
The stretch is about. 24 km.
It was so hot that I could take off my coat and go in shirt sleeves.
Were promoting ca. 16:00.
It is certain that the weather changes from day to day and from hour to hour in the mountains.
This was an excellent tour from Lågaros.
I had stopped 2 times to eat on the trip, and spent 7 hours as it stood on the map.
This means that weather conditions have much say for how long a user from hut to hut.
I think that all the times that are set up on the map is without breaks and in fine weather.
I also had a German in front of me as I tried to hang on.
Mårbu was a very nice place, and they had a good dinner.
Had me new boots on the trip, and I eventually hurt for.
Bulk water blister and blood blister.
When I started in the morning I had to go in approx. 2 hours before his feet were pain-free.
I would perhaps have plastret my feet before I got water blister?
It was bad that people on Mårbu had overview of the cabins that were closed.
It seemed I was not good.
I said I would go to the Solheim Stulen, and had no comment on it.
Day 6
Started at 09.00 after breakfast in the morning.
The trip to the Solheim Stulen was on ca.19.6 km.
It was very nice weather when I started but it started and after each rain.
The path to the Solheim Stulen was nice to go. The marking was good.
Last stretch was a tractor road.
Were promoting ca. 16:00
Unfortunately, the cabin was closed.
It was a line in the bill when I was going to move on to Torsetlia the next day.
Had planned to go to Tunhovd, Eggedal and Norefjell if legs held.
It began to rain more and more, so I decided to go down to Lauås in Uvdal.
It was 15 km. And half the stretch was the asphalt.
From Lauås I went down to the camp site on Bjørkeflåta. Ca.5 km.
Now my legs were not quite good.
Could hardly walk.
Morning after I took the bus to Kongsberg and the train to Oslo.
Most of the time I have been in the mountains before about the years I have had good weather.
Jotunheimen and Hardangervidda.
This trip had also been good, but bad weather.
Was glad I went with sticks.
In the steep rises and over rivers, it was an advantage
Marking turist from the association was OK, but cairn building without red marking from the people was not good.
I saw this on Tyssevassbu.
Had with me a tent and lie surface. Since I was in the tent only one night I could maybe put it back home.
Had saved about. 3 kg.
Next time I left the tent, lie and cooking surface equipment.
Instead, I take with a distress bivuakk and sleeping bag.
Have a bag that weighs 3 kg empty.
With less weight to bear I can handle me with a smaller and lighter bag.
I hope to get down in a total weight of ca.12-13 kg.
This had been one of the most abrasive trips I had gone.
