Plans for the mountain in 2007

Plans to move from Hardangervidda to Jotunheimen. This area is called Skarvheimen.

This is an area I have not been in before.

I want to take the train to Finse.

Day 1. Finse to Geiterygghytta about 15km ( 5hr)

Day 2. Geiterygghytta to Kongshelleren about 14km. ( 4hr)

Day 3 Kongshelleren to Iungsdalshytta. about 15km (5hr)

Day 4 Iungsdalshytta to Bjordalsbu. about 15,5km. (6hr)

Day 5 Bjordalsbu to Breistølen. about 12,6km. (4hr)

Day 6 Breistølen to Sulebu. about 14km. (ca.6timer)

Day 7. Sulebu to Slettningsbu. about 19,2km. ( 6.5hr)

Day 8. Slettningsbu to Ingjerdbu. about 27km. ( 9hr)

Day 9. Ingjerbu to Skogadalsbøen. about 11km. (6hr)

Day 10.Skogadalsbø to Olavsbu about 17,2km. (6hr)

Day 11. Olavsbu to Gjendebu. about 15,1 km. (5hr)

The boat to Gjendesheim and the bus home.

Quite a long trip. Ca. 180 km. to Gjendebu.

I can go a little further from the cabin to another each day so that a user only 6-9 days.

Today is July 1, and I see there are a lot of snow in the mountains. Will not off before the earliest 15 July.

It is almost as much snow as in 2005. When I went from Kjeldebu to Finse around. July 17, and it was pretty much snow. if one looks at the forecasts for snow map from 2005 will see a stretch that I should go should go in early August.

Route description from Finsehytta to Geiterygghytta

This stage is for many the first leg on the classic hike down Aurlandsdalen.From Finse station, the trail a little further west, over the railway line and up through the small residential / cottage field and the steady climb north to northeast over past under Sanddalsnuten (1554 m). Here and in the next few kilometers find yourself on the catchment area of ​​the waterworks at Finse and it is basically not permitted counted here.

Finseå intersected eventually on all bridge and over a ridge at some 1,600 meters above sea level where the locked cabin Klemsbu is right on the other side (or. Nice to rest in the cabin wall). Moreover northeast of between Sankt Paul (1694 m) (left side) and Flakavassnutane (1746 m) on the right side. The former should have gotten its name by the English lord Garvagh they which was much in the area in the latter half of the 1800s. From this the highest point of ca. 1660 m goes down to the east end of Omsvatnet and northeast over a little up the hillside toward Bakkahelleren. (Here we pass pitfall in descent.)Further down towards Geiteryggsvatnet and along this south side to Geiterygghytta

 

 

Route description from Geiterygghytta to Kongshelleren

From Geiterygghytta first a scanty kilometers northwest of the construction road before the path turn right and continue north up the slope west of Sundhellerskarvet (1613 m). On the left hand has Vestredalstjernet (dammed) ever further below them and across the valley riverbeds where rivers Heimre and Foremost Varga poured down gets hydropower development.Soon you come to where the path splits.

The left trail continues straight north towards Steinbergdalen (FH32a) on the left side of Bolhovd (1509 m), while the right path continues in the direction Kongshelleren on the right side of the same Bolhovd. Before you get there, however, must Rossdøla crossed. This happens on summer bridge just off exit outlet to lower Rossdalstjern. By Bolhovd we have gone 5,4km. On the east side of Bolhovd one passes through a Skard with several small lakes before the trail continues northeast along the foot of Bolhovdskarvet (1699 m). Here, when one the highest point of about 1500 m.

Further east in relatively flat terrain towards the passage between Kongshellernuten and Langvassnuten. Midway between these come the trail from Steinbergdalshytta in from the left (FH32b). Further away to Langavatn and a short distance north along this. (Her right underneath Kongshellernuten is a well-preserved animal graves.). On the other side you can see the cabin, and after crossing the river on summer bridge one is immediately promote the Kongshelleren.

 

Route description from Kongshelleren to Iungsdalshytta

Trail descends to Kongshellernuten lake and follow it a piece of direction north / east. Ca. 1 kilometer lead reinvested Volavatnet crossed Volevassbekken. By Volavatnet Austre one passes on the northern side of the water. The trail highest point. 1500 meters. (Under Volavasseggen). One has gone 6,1km.

Here there is a rocky and barren attractive. South and east views Skoepetinden (1705 m) and Blåberg (1805 m) The trail continues over a ridge and further inland reinvested Iungsdalen. The path towards Lungsdalhytta continues slightly up the hillside before it goes down into the valley and has Gjerdesbergi south on the trail.

After a while, the trail goes a little to the north before coming to trail separation. A path leads to the south and along the creek up against Grevskardet trail goes against Syregarden (by highway 50) and Raggsteindalen (FH51). The path continues over all bridges over Lungsdøla and further to the north of Lungsdalsvatnet to Lungsdalshytta.

 

 

 

IUNGSDALSHYTTA - BJORDALSBU

From Iungsdalshytta a short distance north to Fossebrekka who cross the bridge. Across the river there where the path splits the route towards Breisjø / Rødungsstølen (FH52) turn right. The path towards Bjordalsbu continues upward along the river in the direction Fødalsvatnet and sloping up the hillside toward small nut. Here (Klevahovde on the map) are one of Lord cabins that were erected in the area in the latter part of the 1800s. It has four simple benches and no provisions or similar.

From Lordehytta rounds one on the right side of the small and the peak passes Store Klevavatnet left side (west side, later the north side.) Further north towards the mountains Hell (1574 m), otherwise a charming name. The trail passes through a Skard few hundred meters east of the summit, but the weather is good there are not many minutes you need for a detour up to the top where there is a great view.The trail continues down towards Svartetjern prior pelvic crossed above the water. Fairly steep up to Jutultjærnet and northeast over the ridge to the north end of Valevatn.One has gone 7,7km. by Jutultjærnet.

Here you cross another stream at the inlet ose to Valevatn before it goes gently upwards towards Gråhyrneran where the trail's highest point at approximately 1700 m crossed. From here it is only approx 1 km detour southward to the highest point on Gråhyrneran at 1,771 meters above sea level one of the highest peaks in this part of Skarvheimen and looking to Jotunheimen in the north. From here it is only a scant 3 km to Bjordalsbu. First across the creek from Skavlevatnet and down the scree / snowdrifts to upper Bjordal lake and along this Bjordalsbu. This is a very high going route, with over half the trip in 1500 meters altitude or more. Missing is naturally affected by it, with a lot of rocks .

 

 

Bjordalsbu - Breistølen

From Bjordalsbu north across the valley from the cottage. It goes gently down the first couple of kilometers before it again goes slightly upwards towards a ravine north of Graveggi (just east of the hill at 1581 m above sea level).(In the area between the trail and lower Bjordalsvatnet lies the old Hunting with pitfalls.) Upstairs in the vessel has a nice view, inter alia, north towards the western part of Jotunheimen. Here should also view is enjoyed for here there mostly down to Breistølen with increasingly narrower views as a result.Further down towards Rankebotnen where terrain, it is barren and rocky.

From Rankebotnen removes the trail slightly from Bjordal river and rounds on the right side of a small hill. Here the path splits and there are two possibilities for the next piece. One can walk down to the river where it flows into Starsjøen and cross this bridge on summer or keep slightly to the left and cross the river over tunnel entrance and then walk along the river almost to Starsjøen (It blasted tunnel between Mjåvatn and Starsjøen so everything water from here and further up in Bjordalen being transferred to Øljusjømagasinet instead to continue its natural run down Bjordalen.)

One has gone 5,9km. at Starsjøen .From northwest end of Starsjøen trail goes slack upward toward the northeast, over a band and down the other side towards Stardalsmønen and Stardalen. Down Stardalen along Stardøla. Down by power lines is entered on a road. This followed over Mardøla and then a short distance away to Breistølen.

 

 

Breistølen - Sulebu

The trail crosses Highway 52 and continue up the slope along Breistølfjell, eastward through Nordrestrupen. (Here we have reached 1220 m (OvH) and in the direction Masseringstjørn, where the stream is crossed in the outlet.

Now one has Masseringstjørn left hand we have gone 8,2km. Heading north and through Suleskard. This is the trail's highest point at 1,528 m (OvH). Here the trail goes slightly to the east. One has now gone 14,8km. Passing over Sulevatnet on the east side. Here, the trail northwards until Sulebu.

 

 

Sulebu-Slettningsbu, about Kyrkjestølane

From the hut towards Skavlegiltjednet to the old Fillefjellveien. Follow the road down to E 68 at Kyrkjestølane with St. Thomas Kyrkja. When one crosses E16 we have gone 7,5 km.

From here the trail on the west side of the creek from Kyrkjeskartjedne, across the stream in the outlet and further to the west end of Slettningen. Has gone 10,9km. Here the label against NE up to Austrefjorden and down to the upper Årdalsvatn. Pet Burial in the east end. Pelvic intersected in the outlet.

 

Slettningsbu-Ingjerdbu

Syd for Svarteknippa and Skrivareggi to route Kyrkjestølane-Sletterust, down the Skrivarbekken. Over highway. We have now gone 9 km. by crossing the highway 53. Up to Mannsbergvatnet and past Kyrkjevatnet. Down the Hjelledøla to Front Hjelledalen (not overnight). At high flow in Hjelledøla should bridge at Front Hjelledalen used.

One has now gone about 18,8km. This is important. Check path that runs south towards front Hjelledalen. Past Øytjørn to Morkaskardet and Ingjerdbu.

Ingjerdbu-Skogadalsbøen

From Ingjerbu and slightly north / west to Vettismorki and across all seasons bridge over Fleskedøla. Coming as to where the path splits enroute to Fondsbu and Tyinholmen. Has now gone 3,2km. Nice view on Fleskedalen. From here it rises Attendance 1,280 m (OvH) before it goes down toward Uradøla.

Down from Friken and looked over all bridges over Uradøla. So new path separation for Route against Fondsbu and Tyinholmen. So 500m to trail parts of the routes to Olavsbu, Gjendebu and Fondsbu. On all bridge over Skogadøla also down to Skogadalbøen.

SKOGADALSBØEN-OLAVSBU ABOUT SKOGADALEN

A start on the path between Skogadalsbøen and Eidsbugarden / Fondsbu or Gjendebu. A walk on the west side of Skogadøla.Then across the river from Lower Mjølkedalstjernet.Just before Mjølkedalstjøna must again Ford Skogadøla. This can be difficult to get on dry land at high flow. Here, the trail to the north.

One has gone 10,6km. when the trail goes north.Then the trail up scree and very steep towards the top of the 1,617 m.The trail up here may be somewhat blurred here in the stone world and if you are unsure of the way and not find the next cairn, there is always a sure tip to return to the past ensure labeling and looking to the next mark there.On top is a nice view. Far to the west we see Major Austabottinden (2204 m OvH) stick up if you are lucky with the weather. Other peaks are among others Sagi, Rauddalstindan and Uranostind.

Then plunging path down almost 300 meters down scree and down to Raudalsvatnet at 1313 m (OvH).So to an eastward along Raudalsvatnet also on the south side of the river against Olavsbu.Here one must over a bridge like the cabin.

OLAVSBU - GJENDEBU

Start height approx. 1,444 meters above sea level. - The final height around. 990 meters above sea level.

One starts to the east / west and has Mjølkedalstind (2137 m OvH) and Sjogholtstind (2141 m OvH) on the right hand. Also pass the upper 2 ponds in Rauddalsvassdraget the right hand. Proceeding down Raudalen and before then 4 ponds on the left hand. The last of them with an island in the middle.

So passed Southern Grisholttjønn on the south side and swings so slightly to the east. At Southern Grisholttjønn come to where the path splits where the path goes down to Fondsbu. One has now gone 9,1km.

When one has gone 1.2km more hit one on the next trail sharing where the path goes to Fondsbu or Torfinnsbu. The trail now runs north / west down Little Ådalen one will have Tungepiggane left hand. One will cross a small bridge on the way down. Just cause Gjendebu will cross Storåe by bridge.
