It is the 4th July and I've seen the snow conditions in Jotunheimen and Hardangervidda. There is still some snow there. The Dovre have no snow, so I will try to go there. I also want to see how it has been on Snøheim after rebuilding. The tension between Åmotdalshytta to Grøvudalshytta I went in 2009, but that's OK.

Took the train to Hjerkinn Thursday 4 July and the bus to Snøheim. It was predicted good weather for 5 days so I hope that's right. It was not full of people on Snøheim when the weekend had not begun.

There are many who travel to Snøheim just to go to the top of Snøhetta. I just relaxed on Thursday when I had been at Snøhetta 3 times before.

Day 1 From Snøheim to Åmotdalshytta

Friday I started at. 7:50 to go through the west side of Snøhetta to Åmotdalshytta. This is approx. 19km to go. So Heimaste Svånåkollen on the west side of the trail.

The weather was overcast and not too hot when I started. When I came to Svånådalen, it started raining and blowing terrible, and I had to wear my more clothing and gloves. The bad weather gave up pretty quickly and the sun peeping out.

5-6 young men walked past me, they would climb Larstinden on 2065m.o.h

It was lovely mountain into the valley with many fine mountains, Svånetindane. So Buri on 2001m.o.h

At the head of the valley I saw 4 Musk. 2 adults and 2 young animals. They were a little scared when they saw us, but they did not run far. It began to rise a little and I had Larstinden on 2065m.oh and Long Vasstinden on 2045m.oh on each side.

It had been a nice and easy path and go, but now it was worse, with a lot of rocks. Now it went down to Langvatnet on a great stone pile. I've never been in worse pile before. There was a foreign lady down in the ground, and she had difficulty to get down to the water. I came down on a snow field and slipped down.

It was now good path to go away to trail distinguish Grøvudalshytta and Åmotdalshytta. From there it was about. 1/2 hour to go to Åmotdalshytta.

Was promote at. 14.00. Had spent approx. 6hours and 15 minutes for the ride. There were several people at the cabin during the evening, and five rooms were occupied. Several of them would go over Snøhetta to Snøheim next day.

Was promote at. 14.00. Had spent approx. 6hours and 15 minutes for the ride. There were several people at the cabin during the evening, and five rooms were occupied. Several of them would go over Snøhetta to Snøheim next day..

Had a lot of pain in my legs and was very tired after the trip. I expect that it will be better the next day.

Day 2 From Åmotdalshytta to Grøvudalshytta

Started to go against Grøvudalshytta 04.40. It was sunny and the wind was OK. I soon got the wind at my back along Åmotdalsvatnet.

The trail was nice and go and the trail rises only gradually against Drugshøtjørin. Was on the cabin to Lesja mountain board at. 06.30. Had a little messing with a river, but got me across the river without wading. it was bit rocky at Salthøtjønna, but not so bad. It is a relatively flat portion before it goes down to the Storgrøvudals boten.

So it goes steeply down towards Storgrøvudals botnen on a snow field. It was very steep, but I got it by going diagonally. It was greener and there was a lot of mountain flowers down the valley. Forget-Me and Mountains violet.

Down by Litlvatnet there was a lot of stones to go, but had to take it easy. I soon came down to Bjørkøya that was green and nice. Here I saw a lot Wall Speedwell along the trail.

Then suddenly I saw a guy with gold wash pan. He was looking for gold. Had not found anything this year, but he said he found some corn in 2012.

Pass the bridge over the river Grøvu, and now it was only 20 minutes left to go. Was promote 15.15. I was happy with the time. Had spent approx. 10 hours on the trip. There was a family with three boys there. I got a box of beer from the man, and it went straight to the head at me.

There were also 2 grandparents with 2 grandchildren there. Also 2 adults but that would go to Åmotdalshytta next day.

Ate dinner at Gammelsetra. Sour cream porridge and cured meats. It was delicious. Also bought milk and juice there.

I had a nice evening, but went to bed early. Was very stiff and had pain in my legs.

Day 3 From Grøvudalshytta to Vangshaugen

Grøvudalshytta lying on a mountain farm.

Started to go to Vangshaugen at 08.00. It was beautiful weather and pretty hot. It was a tiring climb up the Tverråa. 380m to the path separating Aursjøhytta and Vangshaugen. There is also a bit airy here, but OK to go up. After path separation it was pretty flat for some distance.

Come to Litlglupen 10.00. This was a small valley with a stream and some small lakes. It had risen all the way up here, to 1600m.o.h.

The trail was a bit rocky but very good to go. Could soon see Geitvatnet down. Come to Storglupåa, here I had to wade. It was very strong currents and water went all the way up to the knees. Down by Geitvatnet I had to wade again, and here it was pretty wiry. On the water it was the path separate Rauberghytta and Vangshaugen. I went down to Geitdalen.

So Falsetra above the mountain. Then the trail up the left side of the mountain. Up and over Hyllebekken. From 1000 to 1300m.o.h. I was getting pretty tired. The path went diagonally up the mountain. Then it started to go downhill Vangsskardet. First, quite slack and then steeply down the last piece of the Storevatnett.

I followed the road until Vangshugen and was promoting at 16:50. Was pretty tired now.

Vangshaugen was very nice and it was a collection of huts. Good rooms and a lovely dinner here.I went to bed early as I was going up 04.30 next day.

Day 4 From Vangshaugen to Eiriksvollen

I started to walk towards Eiriksvollen 05.15. Would be sure to catch the bus that went 14.45 from Fale bridge in Sunndalen. The weather was very good and nice temperature.

I followed the trail that ran south / west and around Storvatnet. At the end of the water, I lost the trail, and walked to the road and followed it over to Stortela. Here I hit the trail again. It was fine. Was here 05.50.

So began the ascent from 740m to 1200m.o.h. This was a pain when the trail went up and down several places on the mountainside. It was a nice view from the mountain.

When one came on top it was up and down here also. Very tiring.

Was on top 08.40 and descent to Sunndalen began. Remember in 2011 when I walked down the other side, when I came from Innerdalen. It was very nice to go down there.

When I stand on the edge 09.25, I get a funny feeling. There are no trees and the trail goes steeply down on the edge of the eunuchs that the river flows in. I do not like it much. Thinking that if I stumble and fall it goes very wrong. I go first in the rock pile to the left of the trail down. It is not easy when there is a lot of vegetation there. Further down I see red marking on, and I follow the path down.

It is very tiring for the legs and it does not help to stop and rest.

I'm going into the woods when it is 700m above the valley. It is a relief, but is very tired in the legs

Coming down the road 11.15. Having spent almost two hours at 940m down.

Follow this road up to Fale bridge, and then up to Eiriksvollen where I am 11.45.

I wash and arrange me here and take the bus to Oppdal and train home.

This has been a great trip. Had bad weather 1/2 hours the first day.

The trip from Snøheim to Åmotdalshytta on the west side of Snøhetta was really nice. Fine and lovely mountain terrain. One can live with the last rock pile. But it was awful.

From Åmotdalshytta to Grøvudalshytta I had gone before, but this trip was also nice. It is at 33km, but it is a gentle terrain. And there is rarely one sees so much flowers in the mountains.

From Grøvudalshytta to Vangshaugen was not the dramatic mountains, but OK stretch to go. There was a lot of climbs on this trip.

The last day of Vangshaugen to Eiriksvollen into the Sunndalen I got me a real surprise when I would go descent down to Sunndalen. I thought it was just nice to go from here as from Innerdalen on the other side of the valley. When one is height afraid this is not a nice place to go. For someone who is not afraid of height, this is probably quite OK, but I would I call it fluffy.

Snøheim had been fine. Nice rooms and good food. This feed with buses and the road there can probably debatable, but it so today. Vangshaugen was a new cabin for me and it was really nice with good food.

My knees kept nice, but I had problems with the heel spur when I went. Have had problem with the 1 years now. Every night I was so stiff that I wondered if I was able to move on the next day.

I think this had been a great trip.
