The fine Sørre Hemsing farm

Looking down at Herredalen

I took the bus to Hemsing bridge on July 30, and was lying on Sørre Hemsing farm the the next day. It was really a nice place with nice hosts, Berit and Arne Nefstad. Nice rooms and everything was top notch.
There were nice views at Hugokølla at the other side of the valley.
From Sørre Hemsing to Tomashelleren
I went against Rysndalen the July 31 clock 09.15 afterr a delicious breakfast. Went on a nice path approximately 400m upwards. It was OK mark through birch forest and there was a lot of mountain flowers up there. Was promoting at seats way in Rysndalen at clock 11:00
There were approximately 10 degrees warm and nice weather.
I went on a trail on the left side of the road before I went over a bridge. Walked past a little water and followed the gravel road to the stop. I think it was very nice inward Herredalen with mountains and mountain farms. Was promoting at Road's end clock 12:50. Now began what I had both dreaded and looked forward to. Going up to the top here. About. 400m up. It was pretty steep the first piece.
What was nice was that it was 3 shelves on the way up. So even though it was very steep, so it seemed not airy because of shelves. Halfway up, I ran into a herd of reindeer. It was nice views back down the valley. Come up to Rysntjernet clock 14:00. Here I sat to eat at a small stone house. Had spent approximately 1 hour up here. I see that the trail goes over a peak at ca. 60m. I go a little to the left side in the mountains and suddenly looks a nice trail that runs diagonally backward and up towards the top. I climb a bit and is finally up. I was actually a little proud of myself and think it went fine with my fear of heights.
I hit almost 4 Danes here that would go down where I wound up. Then the trail continues over some peaks and across some pretty big snow surfaces before the trail went down to south side of Rysntjernet and then up the east side of the mountain Tomashelleren. On top of the trail I could see the cottage down by Langetjernet. The cabin was really nice to. Was promoting at 16.00. I was the only one in the cabin. Soon a couple who had tried to go to Yksendalsbu, but had to turn back when the bridge over Dingle was destroyed. They had to go back to the cabin and stay here again. Later came a Dutch family with 2 kids. They had come from Sanddalen. They should all down there the day after. I really had a nice evening.
I would say that this was one of the finest cabins I have been in. Very nice location right by Langetjern and one could see mountains on the other side of Bygdin. The cabin was also very nice inside too.
From Tomashelleren to Yksendalsbu around Kvithaug
I was out and looked at the weather clock 6:50 and it was beautiful. Not a cloud in the sky and the mountains mirrored in the water. After having eaten I went at 08.00 against Kvithaug and Yksendalsbu. I had to do it, because the bridge over Dingle was destroyed.
Marking down toward the Kvithaug was cairns with white V's. It was bad with trails down there. The labeling was fair. Many of the V's were gone but the cairns were there.
Had a nice view towards the mountains on the other side of Bygdin. Passed soon the last water.
Was at Kvithaugg clock 10:50. Spoke with a nice man outside one of the huts there. Then I went on a OK trail along Olefjorden away to the lowermost bridge over Dingle. So it was 2 small bridges before the trail went about 150m upwards. By path splits Yksendalsbu - Bydin walked the trail westward approximately 3km. Had reached the cabin clock 13.15. Met a nice man outside who had gone from Ole where he had parked the car. He would walk around Olefjorden. He was vigorous. He had gone down the mountain to the cabin and said that it was poorly marked there.
He said that the cabin had given its name that it had been bulls which had grazed there. (Ox dals bu). The cabin was well an old sore. I did not think this was the nicest cabin I had been in and I did not like the beds where that was created as cubicles.
There came a man who had gone from Fondsbu. He did not like descent from the mountain to the cabin. He also had met two ladies who had gone up there. They were also frustrated on the basic of poor marking up from the cabin.
Had an enjoyable evening here.
From Yksendalsbu to Bygdin hotel
Got up at 5:00. It rained and it was 3.5 degrees hot. I decided not to go up the mountain when it was probably pretty slippery up there. I would go to Bygdin instead. It is about 24km.
We started at 07.00 and was accompanied with the guy who was going to Tomashelleren via Kvithaug away to where the path splits Tomashelleren-Bygdin. I continued on a good path against Skamdalen where I will go 160m quite steeply up. The trail went in grass up with tracks in the earth, and it was quite OK. There were very many mountain flowers up there and I stopped and took many pictures.
Nice views back towards Ole fjord. Was up by Systebottjernet clock 09:45. A little water with a cabin. I sat and ate at the outlet of the stream here. The trail now went over the top of Skjeldrehornet at 1368m.
It was very nice view here over Bygdin and against Torfinnsdalen and mountains there. This was a real nice countryside to walk in. I went over several peaks so that I so both Bygdin and Ole fjord, but it was not very steep there.
Was soon at the end of Ole fjord and could look down on parking at Ole and the trail began to go steep downward. I lose actually red marking here, but came into the red path further down. I go to the east of the water Seksin and are soon away at Raud fjord which is part of Bygdin. The trail here went pretty far out of the water, and there was a fair amount of stone here. At the end of Raud fjord I had to go over a long reindeer fence until I was gone by the wayside.
Then went on the road about 1-1.5 km before I was at Bygdin hotel. Had use 9 hours on the trip, but had stopped and taken many pictures. Bygdin hotel was a very nice place with OK food and nice rooms. It was also pretty nice view here. The following day I took the bus home.
This had been a great trip, but it was a bit short. The route from Sørre Hemsing to Tomsahelleren was really nice. It was nice upward Herredalen and I got challenged at my fear of heights when I went up to Rysntjernet. It was a little bad mark on top, but otherwise I think it was okay to go up there. It was snowfree to the top and I was happy. I had nice weather and temperature of ca. 10-12 degrees the first day. Tomshelleren was a top cabin and it it was very nice down by the water. Had a nice evening with those who were there.
The temperature day 2 was only 2-3 degrees and there was frost on the ground when I started, but it was clear weather. The trip to Yksendalsbu was very straightforward to go. Went after the cairns with white V's. Cairns were there, but the markings were gone many places. I saw no trail the first 2 hours, but it was very good to go here. One just had to make sure that one had the waters on the left hand. Almost just down. When I saw Kvithaug it was a nice trail down. Quite nice to go along Olefjorden away to the bridge by the river Dingle. It went very wiry and was great. Then the trail uphill 150m to the path splits Bygdin - Yksendalsbu. There were approximately 3km away to the cabin. It was very dirty away over here.
Spent about five hours on the trip. Yksendalsbu was a decent cabin, but I did not liked bed cubicles here. 5 o'clock came a guy who had gone from Fondsbu, and he did not like the descend here. He could not find the track down and went in some steep sections. He would go to Tomashelleren the day after. Was enough glad there were people in the cabin when he had forgotten the keys her.
My plans were to go from Yksendalsbu to Fondsbu and on from there to other cabins , but because it was 4 degrees and rain, i would not go up the mountain from the cabin when it was probably slippery up there without proper labeling so I went against Bygdein instead. This was a very nice stretch with a nice view, but the whole trip was a bit short!
Started at 07.00 and parted with him that would go to Tomashelleren via Kvithaug when the path splits Tomashelleren - Bydin. I continued towards Skamdalen. It was very steep up from the valley there, but it went smoothly. Much mountain flowers there. The trail now went on past water and over several peaks with very nice view. These peaks were not very steep and it was a nice and marked trail. By descent to the water Seksin I came out of the red markings, but the worst thing was that I got hurt in the meniscus again. 8 days after is still knee pain. I wonder if there will be more trips this year? We'll see! The trail continued past Seksin and Raudfjorden. The trail was OK, but a bit rocky.
Was at Bydin hotel at 16:00. It was a nice place to stay with nice rooms and good food. Took the bus home the next day.
